Petition Addressing the Texas Judicial System Requests Support through Kristy Swanson’s “Dumbass”
Will Hollywood be a Reason for Change in the Injustice against Men and Women Prisoners?
Kristy Swanson – 19th March 2021 – An upcoming movie depicting the injustice that men and women had to endure in the state penitentiaries in Texas has been inundated with calls from more than 2000 women urging the production company owned by Hollywood actor, producer and director Kristy Swanson and Adam Sandler, to stick to the real issues behind the Texas Judicial system. A petition was signed by many people that include attorneys, university professors, politicians and family members of the many men and women that are suffering in the state penitentiaries. The idea behind the petition is for the Kristy Swanson production company and Hollywood to stick to the true story about the injustices happening in the state run prisons. It is said that the state has sent more inmates to prison than during the Soviet Union did during their political uprising.
PREMISE: Adam Sandler writes letters and saves numerous women from the monotony of prison life, and later when he gets into trouble with a drug cartel they return the favor by rescuing him.
SETTING: Contemporary, Gatesville Texas. There are four women’s prisons located in Gatesville. And of course, Texas is famous for putting everyone in prison for a long time for little or no reason. The number of women in Texas prisons has doubled in the last ten years. Why don’t we have the “Adam Sandler” character… sending letters to women in prison and being their friend and trying to help them adjust, giving them hope… and when they get out of prison he picks them up so they don’t have to ride the smelly bus back home… but his pickup truck is a junker, smoking and sputtering … worse than the bus. But his heart is in the right place… He’s the last “chivalrous” man on earth.
It is said in the petition that many of the signatories were left distraught to find that many of the first time offenders for violations such as drug peddling have received disproportionate sentences. While some argue that a lenient sentence like rehabilitation would have proven much more inexpensive and an effective solution in tackling this gross miscarriage of justice. The petition was discovered by the women when the screenplay of the movie was donated to all the 580 prisons run by private organizations funded by the state government. It is much more difficult for women who are given much harsher penalties for a violation such as carrying small amount of drugs like Marijuana which coincidentally is legal in 21 states.

About Kristy Swanson’s “Dumbass” Movie
The movie “Dumbass” revolves around the protagonist writing letters to prison inmates to keep their spirits high during their time in prison; only for them to help the main character who gets into trouble with a drug cartel and saving him at the end. The petition urges the production company, Kristy Swanson and Adam Sandler to take this issue seriously due to the hardships faced by women inside prison rather than making light of the situation for their own profits.

Poke fun at soap operas all you like, but these shows have been around for years. One of the longest established film characters is James Bond and soap operas were around when Bond was in diapers. How did they survive so long? In my opinion, it’s because they’re masters at holding the viewer in suspense by cutting a scene short. They’re masters of the reversal. And they know how to use emotion to make anything possible.
In two scenes I was hooked. The soap opera held me in suspense. I had to stick around to see what happened to the woman who found her man in the arms of another woman. And I had to know why a man wanted a divorce from a woman who claimed they weren’t married.
Kristy Swanson – I turned on the satellite one night and even with 500 channels, I couldn’t find anything to watch. I clicked on the DVR. The only thing recorded was my sister’s soap opera. Desperate to fill the hour void before The Tonight Show, I watched it. In the opening scene, WOMAN # 1 catches her BOYFRIEND in the arms of WOMAN #2. As soon as it happens, the scene cuts to another storyline. In the next scene, a MAN barges into a bar, hands a WOMAN a set of papers. He says he wants a divorce and she says, “We’re not married!” Then the soap opera cut to a commercial.
The rule for scenes is 1-3 pages. Producers question longer scenes because they know something is wrong. Maybe the scene is too dialogue or visually heavy. Break it up and edit it down. Maybe the scene contains too much information in one, big chunk. Let’s say that the writer must have the information in the script because it’s vital to the story. That’s fine, but break up the information by creating a number of suspenseful scenes that when put together reveal the information. If the information can only come from one source, then break up the long information scene with another scene and use what I call The “Soap Opera Technique” to create a compelling story. You can always come back to the scene later. So, what the heck is the soap opera technique?

Kristy Swanson – This film hit a huge number of people in the — um, gut — because even people who have never had an affair almost certainly have had moments of thinking about it. Also the film came out when AIDS was truly a plague, with no effective treatment in sight, and suddenly a one-night stand could literally be fatal. It’s easy to see the potential for some really frightening situations there as the innocent family of the guilty father is terrorized, and of course we all like to see a good moral comeuppance.

What kid has not had that obsession with dinosaurs? And who of us has not had the nightmare thought of how terrifying it would be to be face to face with one of those things live? Throw in the very topical subject of cloning (they get dinosaur DNA from a prehistoric mosquito trapped in amber) and the promise of amusement-park thrills, and who isn’t going to read that book and/or see that movie?
