Henry Golding: Mr Elliot, Anne’s cousin
Malaysian-British actor Henry Golding is all set to star in Netflix’s adaptation of the Jane Austen novel Persuasion headlined by Dakota Johnson. According to Variety, Henry will essay the role of Mr Elliot, the cousin of Johnson’s character. Netflix has not announced the actor who will play Frederick Wentworth (the lead, on-screen love interest of Dakota). The movie, which is expected to go on the floors in May, will be helmed by Carrie Cracknell, who will make her feature directorial debut with it.
She is known for directing Jake Gyllenhaal in Sea Wall/ A Life on Broadway. Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow have adapted the screenplay.
Persuasion was the last novel written by Austen prior to her death in 1817. According to Variety, the novel has been adapted for the screen numerous times, including the 2007 TV movie starring Sally Hawkins.
Movie: Lady Killer
Blake Lively: Josie Schuller
Hollywood star Blake Lively has signed on to headline the Netflix feature Lady Killer, based on the Dark Horse Comic series. According to Entertainment Weekly, The Rhythm Section actor will also serve as producer on the film to be adapted by Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody. Lady Killer is a comic book series written by Joelle Jones and Jamie S Rich, illustrated by Jones, and coloured by Laura Allred.
In the film, Lively will play Josie Schuller, who, on the face of it, is the perfect 1950s housewife. But when she’s not catering to the needs of her family, she leads a secret life as a highly-trained killer for hire.
The picture will be produced by Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg of Dark Horse Entertainment along with Lively and Kate Vorhoff for B for Effort.

Elizabeth Olsen: Candy Montgomery
It has recently come to light that Hollywood star Elizabeth Olsen will soon portray convicted killer Candy Montgomery in a new HBO Max series, titled Love and Death.
According to E! News it was revealed that the WandaVision star will play Candy Montgomery, a Texas woman who was convicted for murdering her friend with an axe in 1980 in the new HBO Max series.
The upcoming series by TV writer and producer David E Kelley, is produced by Lionsgate and is inspired by John Bloom and Jim Atkinson’s book, Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, and their Texas Monthly series.
In a recent statement, Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max’s head of original content, called Love and Death “a gripping story about the frustrations and desires of two women in a small town that culminates in a terrible act of violence”.
That’s certainly true as there is another TV series in the works about this bone-chilling case. Back in July, it was announced that Elisabeth Moss signed on to play the axe murderer for a Universal Content Productions limited series in development, titled Candy.
Movie: Adaptation of book ‘Speed Girl’
Hilary Swank: Janet Guthrie
Actor Hilary Swank is set to play Janet Guthrie, a pilot turned race car driver, who smashed barriers to become the first woman to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500.
According to Deadline, Guthrie will lead and produce the film. The movie comes from Joel David Moore and Rishi Bajaj’s Balcony 9 Productions. The two-time Oscar winner is coming off Netflix space drama series Away and Deon Taylor’s feature thriller Fatale.
The upcoming project is based on Stephan Talty’s book Speed Girl. The plot of the movie is set in the 1970s when the fight for women’s rights was gaining speed. Guthrie makes a bid for the Indianapolis 500 in 1976 despite relentless opposition from the racing establishment and the men she hoped to race against.
Janet qualified for the race in 1978 where she finished in the top ten, destroying many widely-held stereotypes about female drivers.
Movie: Adaptation of memoir, Finding the Mother Tree
Amy Adams: Producer, and plays Suzanne Simard
Jake Gyllenhaal: Producer
Actors Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are teaming up to develop and produce the feature adaptation of Suzanne Simard’s just-published memoir, Finding the Mother Tree. According to Deadline, Adams will back the film via her Bond Group Entertainment and Gyllenhaal through his Nine Stories.
Their banners won the rights to the book in competitive bidding.
In addition to serving as producer, Adams will play Simard, a world-renowned scientist and ecologist who first discovered how trees communicate underground through an immense web of fungi.
Simard’s work has been praised as having “planetary significance” and forever changing the way people look at trees. It has inspired authors and filmmakers alike, from the Tree of Souls in James Cameron’s Avatar to the main character in Richard Powers’ novel Overstory.
Movie: New York Will Eat You Alive
Victor Ma: Bai
Colin Firth: In a fun role
Chinese-American actor and rapper Victor Ma will star in upcoming action comedy, tentatively titled, New York Will Eat You Alive. Based on Jia Haibo’s digital comic, Zombie Brother, the film already has Oscar-winner Colin Firth as part of the cast.
Ma will play Bai, a successful biotech engineer who has to lead his group of friends across a New York City overrun with zombies in order to save the world, reported Deadline.
Todd Strauss-Schulson of Isn’t It Romantic fame will direct the film. Alex Rubens wrote the screenplay with current revisions by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.
Zombie Brother is one of the most popular titles on Tencent’s digital comics and animation platform. The comic book is said to have over 28 billion views, while its animated series has amassed more than 3.7 billion views across its first two seasons. The franchise has also been adapted into a stage play.
